NEWS April 2010 - Bat Houses!! So I've put up my first bat house and now I must wait. I went with a slightly larger one (300 Capacity) because I read that there is a better chance of occupancy that way. I have 9 more available for purchase. Call for info or to purchase. They come with a 20 year warranty! July 2009: The second pond on the property still has high nutrient levels so I am going to try adding Bacta-PurŪ POND Bacteria. Click for More Information about the Trial June 2009: Here is a photo of the pond with the American Eagle Windmill Aerator and one of the 50 TROUT Fingerlings I put in last week! Its great to watch them jump out of the water when they attack bugs (or the fish food I throw in to supplement). April 2009: Winter is finally giving way. The snow began to melt toward the end of last week. I am also starting to thaw out, but am again wondering why I moved to this part of the arctic circle! It has been an educational first winter with many lessons learned. November 2008: Three weeks worth of aeration is beginning to show results! The algae line is beginning to recede. Nov. 20, 2008: - Here is a video of the pond at -10° Celsius, -20° with the windchill. It got very cold in a matter of weeks.
October 2008: We have moved in! After a week of cleaning and scrubbing we are finally moved in. I have installed an American Eagle Aerator on the front pond. When I first hooked up the air stone the water that bubbled up was green. Click on the pictures below to enlarge. I will continue to post photographs of the aeration process.
September 2008: We have purchased a new facility just south of Elie, Manitoba. Below are pictures of the ponds we will get to work on with Windmill Aerators. Click on the pictures to enlarge. July 2008: The Winnipeg Park Service has given Maya Aeration Resources permission to install a windmill pond aerator at the St. Vital Park. It was installed on July 23rd, 2008. We chose to install the windmill on the island because it would also be harder for vandals to reach. The area on the island where the windmill is placed had already been cleared by recent beaver damage, so installation was cost effective and the impact on the land was minimal. We are using four air diffusion stones to cover the large yet shallow pond. The windmill will be removed in time for the pond to freeze over for winter. The test of the windmill's effectiveness will depend on the amount of wind that reaches it. The islands are sheltered from strong winds by very tall Dutch Elms. Good for the park, bad for the windmill. On the day the windmill was installed there was a strong wind coming from the Southeast; the one direction the windmill doesn't cover. When we returned several days later we saw the windmill in action. VIDEO OF THE WINDMILL POND AERATOR AT ST. VITAL PARK
Email me at angelo@mayawindmills.com with any questions. This was a representation of what I thought the windmill would look like on the island. Obviously I overestimated the size of the windmill.
